Bexar County Initiative.
Bexar County Initiative:
Being that we are co-founded by two nurses from San Antonio, Texas we have a special interest in making sure that all healthcare providers, first responders, and patients are protected in our local community of Bexar county.
Our focus is on the specific need that we see in our community to help skilled nursing facilities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, personal care homes, home health companies, hospices, frontline healthcare workers and first responders acquire adequate PPE to safely care for our most vulnerable population, the elderly.
Once COVID-19 is acquired by staff or residents in a long term care setting, it is extremely hard to keep it from spreading amongst the especially vulnerable geriatric and infirmed populations who are living in such close quarters. The only way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is through aggressive infection control measures which would require large quantities of PPE. We plan to address this issue by donating PPE to facilities that are in need.
Many of these smaller companies cannot compete with the large hospital systems when trying to acquire PPE. The large hospital systems have the resources to buy in much larger quantities and at higher prices which pushes these smaller facilities to the back of the line and well beyond their budgets when trying to purchase smaller orders to meet their facility's needs.
We at Help The Heroes feel a moral obligation as nurses to protect the healthcare workers risking their lives everyday to care for our most vulnerable population, while also protecting the lives of the elderly by ensuring the facilities they call home have all the equipment they need to keep them safe during this unprecedented time. We believe that by pooling our resources as a community we can unite together to achieve this goal.
Any grants or donations that wish to have their funds used to specifically address local needs will be applied to through our Bexar County initiative.
